Platform strives to offer a comprehensive understanding of Muslim societies in Muslim-majority and minority countries by utilizing data and analyses written by academicians, researchers, PhD candidates, and MA students, as well as interviews with academicians and leading figures all over the world. With an intersectional and interdisciplinary approach to issues regarding Muslims all over the world, we are committed to fostering a greater understanding of Muslim cultures and their contributions to the world.
Platform magazine is published every two months in both Turkish and English. In each issue with a specific theme, academicians, researchers, PhD candidates, MA students, and experts provide our readers with insightful analyses in their respective fields.
In addition to the magazine, the Platform website includes a comprehensive database that categorizes movements, institutions, activities, and important figures in Muslim societies, offering a systematic and easily accessible resource that is readily available to all researchers and visitors. Along with the magazine, the Platform website provides a comprehensive and up-to-date resource for engaging with the issues regarding Muslim societies by combining the database with analyses, interviews, and infographics.
What is the Platform?
The Platform is a magazine and website project initiated by the Türkiye-based İLKE Foundation for Science, Culture, and Education. It aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of Muslim societies in Muslim-majority and minority countries while providing data and analyses on issues regarding Muslims all around the world.
How does The Platform magazine differ from the website?
The Platform magazine provides an in-depth analysis of the agendas of Muslim societies. On the other hand, the website serves as an online platform that not only includes the magazine content but also encompasses a database focusing on Muslim societies, interviews, and informative infographics.
What type of content can be found on the Platform website?
The website offers a complete archive of The Platform magazine, including its previous version, titled "Intellectual Streams in the Muslim World." In addition to the analyses and infographics featured in previous issues, the website hosts an extensive database. Furthermore, it presents interviews with influential figures from Muslim societies under the series titled "Voices from the Muslim World."
What content is available in the database, and what advantages does it provide?
The database displays significant movements, institutions, and figures in Muslim societies. It provides a comprehensive overview of the Muslim world by organizing the data based on countries. The database on activities, generated by tracking the monthly activities of these institutions, serves as a valuable resource for monitoring the diverse areas of research and interests of Muslim communities.
What topics are covered in the analyses?
The Platform covers a broad range of topics in its analyses, including environment and energy, international relations, sociology, art, education, and economy, as well as fundamental rights and freedoms. By exploring these diverse areas, The Platform offers a comprehensive understanding of the complexities and dynamics present within Muslim societies.
The contemporary agenda of Muslim societies is experiencing a profound transformation encompassing a wide range of issues from the economy to energy, culture to migration. This transformation is taking place across the globe, from the vibrant Middle East to the diverse Balkans, from the Americas to the vast expanse of the Far East. As these issues intertwine and multiply, it becomes increasingly important to have a common platform to understand and discuss these dynamic changes. In response to this growing necessity, the İLKE Foundation launched the Thought and Movements in Muslim Societies project in 2021. Our primary objective was to provide a platform focusing on intellectual thought, encompassing non-governmental organizations, research centers, universities, and political, religious, and social movements that actively shape and influence Muslim societies. Through rigorous data-based research, we aimed to present an authentic perspective on the agenda of Muslim societies, countering the predominantly negative narratives perpetuated by mainstream media, which often focus on issues such as hunger, poverty, conflict, and terrorism.
Between 2021 and 2023, we published the Bulletin of Intellectual Streams in the Muslim World on a monthly basis. The bulletin allowed us to systematically monitor the activities of organizations and movements within Muslim societies. We classified and documented these under four key categories: social welfare, fundamental rights and freedoms, international politics, and cultural activities. In the bulletin, we presented comprehensive, in-depth, and comparative analyses along with engaging portraits and interviews with important figures.
As of 2023, we have begun a new phase in our publishing journey, both as a magazine and a website, under the name Platform. This change has enabled us to expand our reach and provide an inclusive platform for dialogue, analysis, and exploration of the dynamic landscape of Muslim societies
