Dr. Gökhan Kavak (1985–Istanbul) completed his undergraduate studies in History at Istanbul University in 2008. He earned his master’s degree in 2012 at the Institute of Middle Eastern Studies, Marmara University, with a thesis on migration from Iraq to Türkiye after the First Gulf War, and his PhD in History at Istanbul University in 2021 with a dissertation on Nigerian history and Türkiye–Nigeria relations.
Between 2011 and 2013, Kavak worked as a foreign news editor at the news site Dünya Bülteni. From 2013 to 2016, he served as a text and visual editor for the corporate website and digital content at Istanbul Commerce University’s Directorate of Corporate Communications.
As part of Anadolu Agency’s (AA) Africa initiative, he worked as a journalist/representative in Nigeria between 2016 and 2020. In addition to Nigeria, he also worked as a journalist in Ethiopia, South Africa, and Liberia. He currently continues to cover African news for AA. His academic research focuses on Communication and Media, Africa in Türkiye’s foreign policy, Türkiye–Nigeria relations, Nigerian history, and colonialism.
In addition to academic articles and book chapters, Kavak writes for and organizes seminars at Kriter, Türkiye Notları, Anadolu Agency, Africana, Star Açık Görüş, AFAM, and the Africa Foundation. He is also a member of the Union of Academics and Writers of Islamic Countries (AYBİR).
Platform: Agenda of the Muslim World was established within the İLKE Science Culture Education Foundation as a publication organ that aims to follow and analyze the intellectual, political, social, economic and cultural agendas of Muslim societies and to present current and original perspectives on the Muslim world.
