İsmail Güleç completed his bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral studies at Istanbul University. His fields of specialization are Classical Turkish Literature and Turkish Sufi Literature. He has served in administrative positions at all levels within the university and has taken part in evaluation teams of the Council of Higher Education Quality Board (YÖKAK). Güleç has authored books and articles on the past and present of the university, and he is currently preparing a book that examines the historical and philosophical foundations of quality and accreditation studies developed for universities.
