He completed his undergraduate studies in Political Science and International Relations at Marmara University in 2008 and his master’s degree in Political Science and International Relations at Yıldız Technical University in 2011 with a thesis titled “Syrian Foreign Policy and National Interest: 1990-2010.” He earned his doctorate at Istanbul University’s Political Science and International Relations program in 2017 with the dissertation “The Institutionalization Problem of the Islamic Movement in Light of the Muslim Brotherhood Organization.” Mercan currently serves as a faculty member in the Political Science and International Relations Department at Marmara University and primarily conducts research on Middle Eastern politics. He has authored various academic articles in this field and published two books, The Rise and Fall of the Muslim Brotherhood: The Political Institutionalization Problem in Islamic Movements and Syria: Regime and Foreign Policy, as well as an edited volume titled Transformation of the Muslim World in the 21st Century.
Platform: Agenda of the Muslim World was established within the İLKE Science Culture Education Foundation as a publication organ that aims to follow and analyze the intellectual, political, social, economic and cultural agendas of Muslim societies and to present current and original perspectives on the Muslim world.
