Dr. Hala Alghawi is a Syrian doctor specializing in general and laparoscopic surgery, a recognized humanitarian leader and advocate. Since 2012, she has been deeply involved in Syria, providing health services to refugees and running mental health and protection projects. Dr. Alghawi is a cofounding member of Families for Freedom, advocates for the release of detainees and the forcibly disappeared, and has trained human rights defenders to document torture and sexual violence with Physicians for Human Rights, from which she received an award in 2016.
