Setiyo Gunawan is a professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember, Indonesia. He earned his bachelor's degree from ITS in 2000 and a doctoral degree from NTUST in 2008. He is actively engaged in non-governmental organizations (NGOs), such as Nahdhatul Ulama (NU), and professional associations, including the Indonesian Chemical Engineers Association (BKK-PII), the Asian Federation of Biotechnology (AFOB), and the International Society for Development and Sustainability (ISDS). He has held various roles, including pharmaceutical industry supervisor (MEDION, Bandung, 2000-2003), a postdoctoral fellow at NTUST (2008-2009), and Vice Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering (2013-2019). Currently, he serves as the Head of the Halal Studies Center at ITS (2020-present), a steering committee member for accreditation of Halal Inspection Institutions (LPH) and Foreign Halal Institutions (LHLN) at BPJPH, Ministry of Religious Affairs, Indonesia (2021-present), and the Director of Halal Product Industry (IPH) under the Regional Committee for Sharia Economic and Financial Development (KDEKS) East Java (2022-present).
