Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yunus Namaz completed his master's and doctoral studies in the field of cinema, earning his PhD in 2018. Between 2009 and 2018, he worked as a research assistant in the Department of Radio, Television, and Cinema at Fırat University’s Faculty of Communication. He has been serving as the head of the department since 2026. Namaz won first-prize awards for his short films "Your Choice" (2014) and "The Fall of Innocence," which he directed. Having directed more than ten short films, he has also served as jury president, jury member, and coordinator in numerous short film competitions and festivals. Continuing his academic research on African cinemas, filmmaking, political cinema, orientalism, and film criticism, Namaz is the author of two books: "Cinematic Discourses" and "African Cinema: An Introduction to the Filmography of Ousmane Sembene."
