The International Movement for a Just World (JUST) was born as a response to the challenge of making it necessary to use values and knowledge to create a just world. Because of the belief in and need for a just world, on August 1, 1992, it was decided to establish a community that would seek to raise global awareness of injustices within the existing system in order to develop alternatives. As a movement that seeks to create an international order that promotes human dignity and social justice, the International Movement for a Just World’s primary goal is to provide a spiritual and intellectual foundation for a just world. Through dialogue and interaction, the International Movement for a Just World aims to ensure that the spiritual and moral worldviews and values embodied in all religious and cultural philosophies provide the guidance needed for a just world.
Contemporary knowledge systems also provide new insights into the kinds of structures and relationships that can reduce injustice and increase justice. Other goals of the movement include to raise public awareness of the injustices and inequities in the current global system as follows: – to foster greater public understanding of how the control and domination of the global system by a privileged few threatens human dignity and social justice in both the First World and the Third World, in both the North and the South -to foster a deeper appreciation among people everywhere of the urgent need for alternative institutions and arrangements at the global level that are more conducive to the emergence of a just world -to raise global awareness of the vital importance of promoting attitudes, values and ideals at both the personal and community levels that will help achieve and sustain a just world – to instill within the human family as a whole a deep commitment to a universal vision of spiritual and moral life and living rooted in the unity of God that will serve to guide humanity in its quest for a just world (International Movement for a Just World, n.d. – n.d.). y.- a).
Aiming to raise public awareness about injustices in the current global system, the movement also seeks to foster a deeper understanding of the struggle for social justice and human rights at the global level, which the International Movement for a Just World believes should be guided by universal spiritual and moral values based on the oneness of God. To achieve these goals, the International Movement for a Just World offers a range of activities, including research, publishing books and monographs, organizing conferences and seminars, networking with groups and individuals, and participating in public campaigns.
